Tascam TDIF cables...

...so, um, who can me up a couple of them for me? LOL

Seriously though, I need a couple of Dsub 25 cables for my components, and I'm not very handy with a soldering iron. I figure between my DA-88, TSR-8, 38, MD-801RmkII, and MTS-1000...I would like to experiment linking some of it together at some point. Anyone up to the task?:confused:
 
If you want a true TDIF cable you can buy a 15' Hosa for about $35 or less on the internet.

Certainly not an expensive item, but a real pain in the ass to make.

Wow, my mistake. I was under the impression nobody carried them anymore. Found one on Sweetwater. Sorry guys.:o
 
heh-heh, it happens, no sweat.

Some cables are easier to buy than make, and the TDIF is one of them. For really short distances (machine to machine) you can get away with a cheesy piece of ribbon cable that's clamped in 25p connectors, but the specification requires some shielding, some twisted pair, it's a bit crazy.

I've made a few over the years, not fun. I made a few "Y" cables too, allowing me to cascade equipment in funky ways... even more of a pain lol.
 
Seeing as you posted in "Analog Only", you do know that TDIF is a digital interface protocol, right?

That's what I was wondering about. I need the one to connect a TSR-8 to a MTS-1000 (or the 38 to the MTS-1000, or the 38 to the TSR-8,...you get the idea...). Does anyone carry that one????:confused:
 
Does the DA-88 have analog outs on a D-Sub? I don't remember. If so, you can find analog D-Sub to XLR, 1/4" TRS and TS and also to RCA. Companies like Hosa, ProCo, Whirlwind make them. You can get them at Full Compass, for example.
 
Full Compass sells that stuff pretty cheaply, with a discount for the more you purchase. If you call them, ask for free shipping and you'll probably get it, if you're buying a few of them.

Yes, the DA-88 does have analog in/out in D-Sub as well as the RCA outs.

Are the cables the same for audio us vs. one for connecting two pieces together for syncing / remote use?
 
I wouldn't assume so. The TDIF cable is not a machine sync cable and vice versa.

What I would do is call Teac and get a schematic for the 25-pin dsub sync cable and see if it is a straight cable (like a balanced audio dsub cable), or if there are pin-to-pin discrepancies (i.e. 1 pin goes to a different pin on the other end) or internally jumpered pins (i.e. a pair of pins on one end that go to each other and not the other end) or even components inside. The cable I had made for interfacing the 388/48/58/ATR60/MS-16 with the ES-50 synchronizer (50-pin cinch to ELCO-38) had two diodes and a resistor in it. The schematic will tell the story. You can just ask them for a cable schematic for interfacing the TSR-8 to the MTS-1000 and they will fax it or maybe even email it to you. It may be straight pin-to-pin, but I'd be surprised.

Yes the DA-88 does have balanced outputs on a d-sub.

They just couldn't make this crap easy, huh Cory? I figured it would be something cut and dry in terms of configuration. That's what I get for thinking... I'll give Tascam a call tomorrow.
