Analogue Enthusiast
We're having a great discussion on the offical TASCAM site with a proposed "1/2"-8-track-7.5ips-dbx-stationary-head-analog-VHS-cartridge-Portastudio". Click HERE to go there and support this idea. Lets make this happen and have something "official", "available", "supported" and "affordable" in the league of reel-to-reel machines. Perhaps not quite but very close.

Thanks,

Daniel

That has to be the most ridicolous idea I've heard or a long time. It even beats Gibsons guitar with an ethernet connector.

Who would ever buy such a machine????

Even if Tascam makes a few sales, there's hardly going to be enough of a market to make it worthwhile!

ADAT/DTRS is relatively cheap and sounds far better than ANY analog PortaStudio-format ever could.....

"Yeah... but it's ANALOG!"

...maybe so, but if you can't get a good recording out of an XT20 or a DA78, then you sure as hell ain't gonna be able to get something good out of a PortaStudio!

It would be more expensive than an 8-track casette, it's doubtful if it would actually sound significantly better, unless speciall casettes are being used, which would drive up the running costs far above reel-to-reel costs.

I can't stop myself. I just have to register at the Tascam forum and tell them The Undoubtable Truth. ;)
