Hi Everyone,

I am new to Home Recording forum, I just need some advise. I picked up a 424 MKIII recently for 20.00 bucks on the craigslist. The guy I bought it from said it had issues, for that much money, I had nothing really to lose. I been recording with multitrack tapes back in the day and don't like digital recording so I am going old school and loving it, just like riding a bike. Anyways I cleaned the 424 MKIII, tape heads and degauss/demagnetized, wiped it up and got the can of air out to blow out the mixing board etc.., Everything is in new condition cosmetically and works super. The only problem is the master slider is stiff, now I blew it out with a air can, and took a cotton swab with a little alcohol and stuck it in the groove, and so it lighten up a bit, so now it's a little better. Is there a way to properly clean the slider without going in the machine. I just don't want it seizing up on me later.

Thanks.

First thing's first...welcome!

Secondly, have you tried pulling the fader knob off? Sometimes they can get pushed on a little TOO good and cause the action to bind a bit...pull the fader knob straight up and off and see what the fader feels like then...if it is much better/more like you'd like it just put it back on but don't push it on so tight.

I will try today and see if I can take off the fader knob, as the last time I tried, they were in there pretty tight I don't wanna damage the unit, so I left those ones behind.
