TASCAM Pimps Out the DP-004: the DP-006!

In a nutshell, went from 4-mono tracks (DP-004) to 2-mono/2-stereo(switchable) tracks (DP-006). On quick glance, everthing else is the same.

I'm not sure how I feel about these products. I'm not sure I'm a pocket-sized-product type of person, although I did get a used PS5 several years ago, which I like despite it's technical liabilities. I stumbled upon the DP-006 by chance on Amazon, but I'd noticed the DP-004 was heavily discounted ($99) last time I was at Guitar Center. Being fully stocked on traditional cassette 4-track Portastudios, 4-track reel/reels, and the DP-02cf digital 8-track, I'm not sure I'd ever get one of these newer products. However, it's interesting to note the PocketStudio 5 and DP-02cf run on Compact Flash cards, a harder-to-find obsolete product. Sometimes I think technology is moving too fast, which makes buying new products prohibitive due to planned obscolescence. Even the DP-24 is noted to have dropped valued features from the 2488 Neo, and I see virtually no value in the DP-32 vs. the DP-24, due to trade-offs made on the DP-32. I feel the same way about you that technology is moving to fast. Tascam has seemed to be moving backwards way to fast and that is why I jumped on the good machines after they were discontinued(DP-02,2488MKII.2488 NEO) all with plenty GB built into them with great un-compressed quality and reliability. Oh yeah and heavy duty not lightweight toys!! I just don't understand it when companies build a good thing and then not even at its peek,get rid of it and make a so-called "new and improved" model with even more bells and whistles whenever they haven't even gave the people time to see what could be done with the former product !!!
