I remember that line well from Forrest Gump.

I have an MSR16 which I really like. It's kinda like a box of chocolates...

I really do like it though.

Do you want to sell it?

Ghost .................. First.....it runs at 30 ips and has no DBX..of course it does not need it at that speed. It does have the meter bridge and was used in a home recording studio. If I were to sell it it would be really tough to ship as it is really heavy. It does not have the Tascam rack.I need to find out what it is worth and get it checked out by the tech so there are no surprises.

My MSR16 has dbx. One button for tx1-8 and another for tx 9-16.

I bought mine last spring and it cost $110 to ship it to Michigan from the east coast. (I paid $850 for the machine)

Yeah, there was a shop certificate with mine from the techie who biased the machine for 456. I haven't (knock on wood) had any problems with mine yet. Hope this helps.

Yes, that's how fast your money will move out the window. :D 30ips
I said what I said more based on the fact that the heads were not designed for that speed and as such, 30 ips will eat up the bottom octave and much of that warm, wonderful bottom end response that makes an MS-16 an MS-16.

The other issue is the accelerated head and guide post wear at the double speed.

I know a lot of people like trying to pimp up their TASCAMs to turn them into something they were not but in many cases, these mods have more negatives then positives. :o

I'd further postulate that many of these same people are in the same crowd who purchase Chevy Malibu's and attempt to turn them into Corvettes.

Cheers! :)

Is it difficult to get it back to 15ips?
I've read that it's a two step job to get it back to 15 ips. One of the steps is a switch on a buried circuit board inside the transport unit and another dip switch on another board to get the time counter to read properly but, I'm not sure as this stuff is not covered in the owner's manual or if it is, I must have missed reading about it in there.

The final caveat in going back is that Rico 52 stated his machine does not come with the dbx noise reduction and at 15 ips, that's something that would be nice to have. The dbx DX-8DS's, (the proper NR units for that deck), are near impossible to find ala carte at this stage of the game.

Cheers! :)

Thanks for the input. The machine came from the factory at 30 ips.
I always thought it was a little short on bass response. I just goosed it and drove it hard. I also had an 80-8 that had dbx.I always thought it sounded
better w/o the dbx but of course after I got the the dbx I always used it.
I was just learning about the recording process as well.

Thanks again........................
