I recently bought this MS-16 supposedly in "only fair cosmetic shape but functioning fine." It turns out this thing needs a little more TLC than I was told. The electronics seem OK (including all of the cards), but the heads are in unknown condition and there are mechanical issues with the transport and the tape lifters are stuck in the recessed position. I got a manual and it seems most of the mechanical issues are a matter of adjustment and calibration but certainly stuff that requires more than your basic alignment and I just am not experienced enough to deal with it and am weary of finding a tech in NYC that I can afford.
This is the machine in the full flatbed factory stand and has 16 channels of dbx nr as well. I also have most of the AQ-65 locator which is disassembled.
So here's the deal: I'm considering selling parts of this machine (or the whole thing) to make back most of my money and buy one in better shape. I'm posting this to see if it is worth it for me to do this or not. If enough people express interest, I will go ahead and sell everything. If not enough people want stuff I guess I have no choice but to try to get it working myself.
I figure the main thing people would want are the channel cards. As far as I can tell from my initial tests, all 16 are fine. I'd be willing to sell most of these and keep a few as spares for when I get another one.
I'd sell the channel cards for $75 ea., perhaps I'll give you a break if you want more than a couple. (someone recently successfully sold a bunch for $100 ea on ebay).
If you are in need of ANY parts for your MS-16, tell me what and make me an offer.
I'd sell the whole thing as is to somebody for $750. Like I said it has problems, but not stuff that would necessarily cost tons of money to fix, just time, knowledge, experience with this type of thing. The front of the machine (where the VU meters are) is quite scrathed up. Also like I said, I have no idea how the heads are, they do show some wear, but aren't scratched or anything. Again, if I need to , I will send the headstack off for a head report, but would rather not deal with that as of yet. If I do, and the heads are in good shape, I would want more for the machine.
If someone wants the whole machine or any part of it which is big and heavy, it would have to be picked up. I will certainly ship the cards or any other small parts anywhere. I am in lower Manhattan, NYC. If anyone wants to see the machine, I'd be happy to bring you to my studio.
