Hi

first time posting here, hope i'm in the right sub-forum or whatever.

i have a Tascam ministudio 02 mkii 4-track machine and i have used it a few times in the past (i got it like 2 years ago) but i haven't used it for a year or so and it doesn't seem to be working for me now. i have a Shure SM-57 mic and plug that directly into the Tascam, but when i try to listen on headphones i get no sound from the mic...

is this a problem with my tascam or with the mic or ... ? idk it's been a while since i recorded anything on tapes but i really would like to use it again. would appreciate any help as i'm a bit lost

thanks

dan

Try...

Try listening thru the RCA Line Outs to a receiver or boom box, instead of the headphone out.
You may just have a defective headphone out, depending on what you find, or a total failure.
I hate to say this, but I've found from experience that sometimes the playback amp chip just fails for no reason.
One thing to do, is use your mic or input device to record onto all 4 tracks "blindly", regardless of hearing anything back.
Then pop the tape into a boom box, car player or home cassette deck to verify if anything went down to tape.
That would tell you a lot.
I've gotten a few of these units and found them defective. They would record onto tape fine but not play back at all.
It bears out some experimentation, but if it failed it's nothing that you did. It's just cheap components failing.
:spank::eek:;)
