I've been working on basic audio for my schools for quite a few years, but I have never really been taught, I've just learned myself. Right now I'm using a Tascam M-320, and I am having trouble learning to EQ. Anyone know where I can find a manual that can teach me this, or something online? I'm working on a play right now and need to figure this out as soon as possible.

a) Get a handle on the shapes- Shelfs, roll-offs (also called high & low pass -'pass is what gets through unattenuated) and peak & dip (bell curves).
b) Grab some sliders/knobs, boost and/or cut a bunch while listening and looking at the freq. numbers.

Soon, you should be at some gig wondering why the hell the soundman isn't nipping that roll at 200...

Really.
:D

Thanks, but I didn't quite understand that :( . I'm hoping for a somewhat detailed description of the Knobs (i'll get the numbers next to each on the board tonight). From what i know already if I am getting an hi pitched squeal i turn down the lower knobs (the ones labelled with higher numbers), and opposite for low reverb. Is there a way to get more detailed than this though?
This may help-the gig is a school musical, and during the songs they have a full orchestra playing so I have to turn the mikes up quite loud and this is when i start getting reverb. We don't have the funds to get a separate EQ console, so I have to deal with the 4 knobs on the board. Any tips?

Tell the orchestra to quiet down, the show is about the singers. Really, it's a tough question to answer without being there. There are lots of factors that could be causing your feedback issues.

Ok thanks for this much at least =). Last question, anyone know of a good way to learn to EQ? I know a few people that can teach me, but they may be busy. Are there any courses online or something?
