The m308 does not provide phantom power the m308B does. In the 300 series (8,12,20) only the second generation with a B in their name provided phantom power.

But are the 300-series mixers like the MX-80 where there is a phantom rail, just no supply? (i.e. phantom switches on each channel, but not power there unless you connect an external phantom suplly, but then you've got the phantom power switcheable on each channel?)

No, I used to have an M-308, and there are no phantom switches for phantom power that I can remember.

The best solution I can think of, without tearing apart the mixer and doing some kind of risky mod to it, is to just use an external mic pre that has phantom power, if you are using mics that require it.

You may be able to construct a 8-in, 8-out phantom power supply to kind of "dock" into the back of the unit externally, with enough ingenuity and circuit design. I considered doing it with my M-308, but never got around to it.

If you'd like, I can dig up the schematics and share my thoughts on such a unit if it's something you'd like to pursue constructing. :D
