Tascam M-2516, phantom power, and a Eureka

Learning, always learning
I wanted to ask this question before I actually hook this stuff up together and blow something out. Reading the manual (yes, I'm one of the rare few who reads them) it has a warning not to connect XLR outputs from tape decks, CD drives, etc. if the onboard phantom power is going to be on. Now, this is where I get confused. My intentions are to run my SM7b mic into a Presonus Eureka, and then into the M-2516 mixer since the mic needs alot of gain compared to the others I have. Now if I want/need to run (for example) my AT2020 mics from the mixer (using the mixer's phantom power), would I be hosed in using my Eureka pre-amp? Or should I just run the Eureka into the 1/4" channel inputs and call it a day?

If you connect the Presonus Eureka to the Tascam via a 1/4" line input it will work fine as there is no need to connect via the XLR's.

There is also then no danger that you could accidentally blow up the Eureka by turning on the phantom when using line inputs.

My out board mic pre's are all connected via line inputs to my console.

I am surprised you cant get enough gain from the Tascam mic pre's for the SM7, are they getting noisy when gained up this much? The M2516 is a great mixer in their day, but I used one for years and got very good results, I thought they were very underrated when they can out.

Cheers

Alan.

I love the M-2516. but it doesn't have quite enough gain to make the speech and vocals pop without some self noise. I could use the line inputs without any issues. Man, I'm gonna have a crap-ton of cables running in and out of this thing by the time I get finished setting everything up.:D

I know about tons of cables only too well ha ha.

The SM7 has a reputation for having low gain so that is the problem, using the eureka should fix it. The M2516 was good for it's day, the midi mute scene control was a bonus when mixing, but the eureka should be a lot quieter.

Cheers

Alan.
