Well it appears that forums on Tascam aren't completely dead...yet. Here's their response to my inquiry:

Thank you for your inquiry.

We are researching various possibilities for the forum. At this time there is no definitive time frame. If you have questions not answered by current website info, please contact: www.custser@tascam.com or call 323-727-0303 ext. 617.

Best regards,
TEAC America

So where's the forums? One of the reasons I purchased a Tascam was the excellent forums you provided for your customers. It would be a travesty if they didn't come back.

With that they meant "FORGET IT!"

I believe that, if enough of us loyal Tascam lovers beseige their site with our dissatisfaction with their leaving us bereft, they may come around to see the light.

I just hope they understand that if they piss us (analog guys) off and decide not to include us on the forums, then it's 24/7 negitive smeer campaign against their products and services.

There are guys here that have dedicated thier lives to KNOWING Tascam gear better than any smart ass douchebag that answers the phones over there and when the newcomers start asking for opinions about Tascam in an over choiced word of mouth digital market..
Then Ha! Turn your back on us and we'll make you out to be a company even Berhinger can look down on!!
What made them can fade them.

I wouldn't be surprised if they come up with two seperate sites, OR if they drop the grand fuck over and make you have to use your NEW Tascam warranty or serial # to activate an all inclusive membership so they can keep the digi-breed all rounded up and segragated from any anti-establishment truth spewing analog nay sayers. (Who eventually they'll give the finger to by discontinuing analog parts and service to in hopes of cutting out the cancer.)

I really hope I'm wrong, but we'll see.
:)

I guess that's what happens when those goddam customers start getting out of control.

I might be digital but I'm still pretty bitter about some of the responses (or lack thereof) and elimination of the forum.

Granted, the service department has always helped me out when I called or sent in equipment for repair, but come on - this is the 21st century. I want my instant gratification!

On a side note, I've found emails don't always have the same effect on getting through the beauracracy, ime. I've got a letter typed up to be mailed on Monday although I sent them an email as well.

I just watched a decent performance by Britney Spears and then saw a commercial for "Average Joe". Couple that with the Tascam bbs frustration, as my mixer is overheating once again, and you'll probably understand why I'm going to go take a tequila shot and stab myself with a milkbone.

Cheers.

You have got to be kidding me!! I just got a DM-24. When I purchased it, I thought the learning curve could be eased by the forum. Has anybody tried to read the crappy manual(s) for the DM-24? It's ridiculous. ALL AROUND CRAP!!!!!!!! TERRRIBLE!!!

What they did is unexcuseable!! THEy have all our email addys!
A simple mass email would have been nice.

I personally use digital and I dont see why there should have been a big deal about the dg- vs - analog. Everyone is free to like what they do--- I have no complaints against someone who uses different equiptment than I use.

I think they screwed themselves out of a lot of sales!

But I am just a little guy- they are the giant---

a bunch of missing little guys can really hurt the Giant!

You're right that it's not about the Dig vs Analog thing, or at least it should not be. I know what I like and you know what you like. It's a preference and I dig Analog. The issue really is about TASCAM going cheap in all areas of it's company from gear to customer service. It all began around the mid 90's, and please correct me if I'm wrong. It seems that TASCAM doesn't particularly care about its past and now present customers. If they did, they'd put up the damn forum or at the very least humbly apologize and explain the situation. There was a wealth of information and, yes, some TASCAM "bashing" from some angry members, but most at least tried to be fair. Rather than TASCAM take to heart some of the "anger" and try to improve its customer relationships it did the exact opposite. It completely allienated many die-hard TASCAM fans. TASCAM is not the same company it was not-too-long-ago. TASCAM doesn't seem to care about designing quality gear anymore nor about it's customer base. All it wants is a pie share of the digital market and has become a "me too" company. It went from being a leader to a follower. Sad.

My previous post made it seem I was drawing a line between the Digital and Analog guys. (Honestly I don't care which medium anyone uses to make themselves happy.)
I was refering to and commenting on the theory (which has been kicked around for a few months) that part of the reason Tascam pulled the plug on it's forum was because of comments made about the companys growing neglect towards their analog past... So no offence meant to Analog OR Digital folks here.

I wonder if they're getting ready to fold up their tent? Haven't seen a lot of new product from them in the last few years.

I'd better order that eprom chip Monday.

That's kind of where I thought things were headed.

I don't know, their high end recorder (SX-1?) was trumped by Roland and I don't see much Tascam product in the catalogs anymore, especially the 788.

I'm starting to really like Yamaha's AW series. Anyone look at them?

Back in the day, when I was all ga ga for digital, I thought the Yamaha AW series was awesome! If I were into "digital" I'd definitely look into the Yamaha's .. They're a solid company. As for TASCAM .. well .... you know ... :o
