Hi,
Im using a Alesis SR18 with my DP24 and was wondering how i use it to not get latency issues.
I know i have to use MIDI, but what do i use as the trigger? and do i need to use the midi clock? on the DP24?
Im a bit new with using MIDI and any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks

Thanks for your info.
Is there a device you can think of that could be used as a Master?

so that's a one way street for the Clock.
and that's the right way, too. you don't want your main unit adjusting itself to suit the timing errors of one outboard instrument; better that that instrument (the drum machine) plays catch-up with the main unit

how i use it to not get latency issues.
how bad a lag are we talking?

one common problem occurs when someone expects the internal metronome of the main unit to be completely synced with the midi gear - it won't. there is always a lag. the solution (for me, anyway) is to always use the drum machine sounds as my metro - then your click and your drum tracks will always be in sync, as they both come from the same place

if your problems are greater than that, e.g. going further out of sync over time, etc. - then double check your settings. tempos on both units must match. also check the frame-type (i think the DP's are permanently set to 30fps, non-drop) and make sure the drum machine has the same values

and make sure every song has at least a 2-bar count in, instead of the usual 1-bar. this lets the units waste a little time sorting themselves out before your actual tracks start.
