I just got a Tascam DP-03, I have it set for recording,
the red light is blinking, when it is switched to internal mic
A sound comes through the headphones when I make noise,
but when I try to record with my microphone which has a 1/4
inch jack, plugged in to Line A input, no sound comes through
the headphones. It doesn't matter if I move the trim knob or
the recording volume, no sound comes through.
Is the Lina A input not for microphones? Because my microphone
doesn't have the other kind of jack for the "microphone" input.
Right now I just have a Shure SM58 and I am getting some
SM57's but they're not in yet. Do I need to convert my microphone
to the "microphone" input that the DP-03 recognizes or should
it work as is?

Yeah, a line input is for 'line' level sources. A microphone needs a preamp to bring it to line level. Your mic cable is XLR to 1/4" then? Get an XLR to XLR mic cable and use the mic input. :)

You have to assign a track to the input, arm the track, and then record. If you can hear the audio through the mic in the headphones, then you are missing a step somewhere to get things assigned and armed.
