Tascam DP-02. Can I record while playing through my amp?

My band wants to be able to record our rehearsals (just the guitar and bass). Is there a way to be able to hook up to the tascam and record, but still be able to hear through our amps? Would prefer to not have to mic our amps since the room is small and the drums will be picked up....plus we don't have mics.

The way I understand it right now, we can plug our guitar and bass straight into the unit to record, but how are we supposed to hear what we are playing?
 
more info needed what kind of amps my one suggestion would be di boxes to split the guitars so you can send one cable to the tscam and one to the amp but then you will lose your effects some amps have on output for headphone/direct out that could be an option. but 2 sm57s mics would be the way to go.

if you shove those mics right up gainst the speakers the drums will be picked up still but will not be anywhere near as loud as the git and bass.
 
Bass amp: Ampeg SVT2
Guitar: Forgot what type of Mesa head (thinking some type of rectifier, but mark 5 is sticking out in my mind too), but it has a Mesa Boogie Triaxis preamp
 
i would say with those amps there has to be some line out on the back that you could go into the dp02
 
Made this a while ago, but bumping now because we didn't end up recording at the time. We are wanting to now though. How/where would I connect the Dp-02 to this amp and what cables would we need?

It is the SVT-2 non-pro (bottom pic), but the back connections look the same as this Pro I found on musicians friend (top pic). Can't link, but if you go to Musicians Friend website and search "ampeg-svt-2-pro-series-amp-head", you'll find it.


Again, we want to record while hearing it out of the amp.
 
I'm gonna suggest you really need to read up on this stuff since this is extremely basic.

On that amp though there are four potential places ..... the pre-amp out is obvious ..... and that's why i say you need to read up.
Even the most basic newb would know that the pre-amp out is a line signal and could go to the recorder.

You also have a balanced line out. How can you not see this?

Also the slave out would probably work though you want to do a search and make sure it's a line out and no, I won't do it for you.

And sometimes the effects loop can be used. But on this I'd go for the preamp out or the balanced line out..
 
Most guitar amps either have a send/return or a line out. Both are typically line level.
Most amps also will not route the signal through the send and return unless something is plugged into the return, so in other words you can normally go out from the send and as long as you don't plug anything into the return the signal won't be interrupted.

I think the DP02 will record 2 channels at once, if so go from the send(or line out) of one amp to input one, and from the send of the other amp to input 2. Just make sure to start with your DP-02 input trim turned way down and gradually increase it.
