Hi everyone
I am very new to home recording so please be patient with me!
When I bounce a master track on my DP 004 to say, track 1, how do I then add extra tracks to it?I can't seem to save the master and play it on track 1 so I can record more tracks on tracks 2-4?Help!
You're in the wrong section of this forum! This section is for MASTERING your final mixdown to final form.
From what you are asking, you are bouncing tracks 2-4 to track 1? Just arm whichever track you want to record onto on next pass.
Yeah its the wrong room but since it hasn't moved yet: here's the more depthy answer specific to that machine. The DP004 has two different terms it is using: "mastering" by combining to a final pair of stereo tracks is one function (page 25) while "bouncing" also uses the term "master" in its description (page 69). (The "mastering" part is not to be confused with the "mastering" that this room is about by the way, it's just a misleading bit of Tascam's own terminology).
On the DP004, the result of a recorded "Master" can only be played by "Master playback" which is a function intended for a final L-R mix to load off to some other outboard recorder, or export to a computer by USB. In this mode, you do not use it as a recorder but play it just like you would a stereo.
In "bounce" mode (p.69) you put your mix on another track while still in its 4 track recording mode. They use the word "master" in this incidence as the temporary combination of the tracks you then have the option to either undo (if you don't like the result) or keep (if you choose to commit it to the track or tracks you assigned it to "bounce" to). In this mode, you get to continue using it as a recorded part while also being able to add to it.
Its confusing because of semantics. The word "master" is used in too many different ways here but I hope that cleared it up.
