I'm saving up to get a new console, and I am thinking I will get a digita mainlyl because of the flexibilty and the dynamic processors on each channel.

How does the Tascam DM 24 compare to the Yamaha O1V? What about the Yamaha 01V96?

The O1V96 looks to be the best, but I haven't talked to anyone that has had much experience with the Tascam.

What can you guys tell me about these? As in, the A/D to D/A convertors, the dynamics processors, the preamps, etc.

Thanks in advance!

Hi, I have the DM24, never used the O1V but I considered it before I bought the DM24 almost two years ago. I did some extensive research, the details of which I can't remember now but I know I opted for the DM24 for good reasons.

It really is a good mixer, the only criticism I would have is that the learning curve is steep but when you break it, it's all good from that point. The manuals are like handouts from a Phd course. But then again, it could be the same for the 01.

The amps, dynamics, etc are excellent, same as the effects, however even though you have loads of very good effects you are very limited in how many you have running simultaneously, which is only 2.

Hope this helps.

I have used the Yamaha O2R ( non 96 version ).

Never used a O1V of any type though which I think is a step down from the O2R series

I own a Tascam TMD4000 as well as a DM24.

My opinion on differences are :

The O2r series are good lookers. With the wood and all, but way over priced to me.

The Tascam TMd4000,, I like the way it's built better than the DM24. It seems they put more thought into it.

Overall the DM24 is a beast. Im still learning it but its just sooo damn flexible and routable.

Sound quality between the TMD4000 and DM24 seem close. Both are very good IMHO.

I prefer the sound of either Tascam over the O2R series which is supposed to be better than the O1V's

If I could make a wish, I would want Tascam to take the DM24 guts and throw it in the TMD4000s body. LOL

Don't know anyone who isn't 'still learning' the DM24. My one criticism is the learning curve, but once you learn to work the basics, it's not a problem, it's only when you try to use it in all of it's beastiness that you need to do a bit of swotting. But they're fantastic machines.

Well I bought an 01v96 this week and for my particular set-up it's excellent.

I've got it wired to an HD24 via the MY16AT card, 6 lightpipes and a word clock cable - no worries there.

Where it really shines is the studio manager software. In the studio this is an awesome tool, which makes the desk really, really easy to use and easy to save all your mix sessions to harddisc for later retrieval.

I also got it to act as a control surface for Pro Tools with no hassle - one I found the page on the mixer that let me set the USB port as communication and installed Yamaha's drivers on my Mac.

It will even do MMC - controls my HD24 for play, stop, rtz, locate points and remote track arming... Bye, bye LRC!

So I, for one, am well impressed. I have always used 02r's at work though so my learning curve was pretty much non-existent - I already knew how to use the desk before I even saw it.

I've used DM24's at work as well and I have to say I don't like them at all - but then you learn one system (Yamaha's in my case) and it tends to make other systems seem a bit stupid. I'm sure a Tascam user looking at an Yamaha would say the same.

So that's my quick (biased) review anyway. :)
