Hello
I was wandering if anyone could tell me the difference between the large and small monitor outputs in the rear of the dm 4800. in addition could i use the stereo xlr output for control room monitoring?
thanks
For my usage, there is really no difference between the Large and Small control room outputs. I use the Large output for my main mixing/monitoring speakers(Mackie HR824s). I have the Small outputs going to an alternate set of speakers(Alesis Monitor1's) that I use to compare mixes for a consistent sound; the Large and Small outputs should be interchangeable. You could certainly use the XLR mains to send to monitors, although, you would normally send those outputs to your mastering deck. If you are mastering to a deck that has digital I/O, I would suggest routing the stereo output to the digital I/O in the DM and use that to go to the mastering deck. That will allow you to bypass another Analog conversion and also free up the XLR output for monitoring. I don't currently use the XLR outputs, but if I needed a stereo feed to the studio(not the control room), I would take it from the XLRs.
