It's Too Funky in Here!!!
Introducing the Tascam BB-1000CD, with 4 built in microphones (or 4 ext. mic jacks) recording down to stereo onto CDr or SD cards, including overdub recording mode, battery or AC adapter powered, metronome & chromatic tuner,.... plus integrated 10W boombox sound system,... wireless remote and phantom power on two mic inputs. Gosh,... this thing has everything except USB! I think Tascam really dropped the ball on that one!

Still, this product's a trip! Might be good for live remotes or band practices that you only want to carry a portable device. Not handheld, but hey,... it's a boombox! That's "BB-" as in boom-box.

I wonder what it's priced at, or how many Tascam will sell in the long run?;)

Neat idea, but I wonder how many they'll sell in this economy at $600?

Well, outside of the price, this is a great idea - because if you are recording your practice, and you want to share the take without headphones, it's quite useful. I just got a DP-004 a couple of months ago, and I wish I had speakers. Oh well. Still - great idea!

Yeah.

I'd say,... take the DP-004 and velcro it down to a regular boombox, preferrably of the Salvation Army (cheap-thrift-store-bargain) type.;)

Hint: I've often thought of adhering an MF-P01 or Porta-02mkII to a boombox with velcro for my kids! Seems like a good solution to me!;)

The BB-1000CD? Yeah, it's kinda neat, but I'd not seen the MSRP price anywhere. $600 seems kinda pricey, but it will come down quickly when it hits the street. It seems well equipped enough that it could rival the Marantz PMD type portable recorders, eh?

Edits:...

My previous edits didn't take!

The top post should have read "4-internal mics or 2 XLR ext-mic inputs with phantom", (not 4 external mic jacks, but there's 2 XLR mic inputs & 2 RCA line in jacks on the patch panel).

Not a bad idea - wish I had been swift enough to think of that!!! If the BB-1000CD has nice preamps that don't distort on anything but a whisper (PMD660), then it would be a treat!

Interesting comment.

Maybe you'll have to buy one and do a field test shootout & report back! Thanx!;)
