TASCAM MAN

New member
I recently was listening to some music on my home stereo thru my Tascam CDRW-700 and all of a sudden it stopped playing......I went in the living room and it was SMOKING!!!:eek: So I unplugged it and brought it to the kitchen opened it up and managed to get the CD out of it. Left it open and plugged it in and turned it on again and saw right where the smoke was coming from.....didnt exactly see what was burnt. So laid it up in the back room for a couple of weeks and just decided to take it to a TV repairman that has helped fix cassette based recorders for me and......he opens it up and put his BIG magnifying light in front of the PC board and said "I see it, you look if you see it" so....I saw after a while,a lil capaciter(M&M looking) burt up in the power supply!! He smushed/crushed it with his finger and went looking around for a replacement "M&M" ;) and saudered it in and checked it out and.......WAHLA in maybe a mere 20 minutes and a $10 charge ( I tipped him another $10) so a grand total of $20 and just like new !!! :D

Dam my friends,ya'll really could give a shit huh !!?!?!?:wtf:

You are lucky...

You are lucky you have anyone at all you can refer these repairs to, and doubly lucky it's very effective and reasonably priced. We all know it's general consensus that this technology is "disposable and usually repair costs exceed the cost of a new device". You apparently broke all the rules on that one!
:spank::eek:;)

Very true indeed and we need more honest eletronic tecnicians in the business like my friend Joseph.If you would see his shop(an old trailer in the middle of the swamps of La.) and see all the TVs and 'stuff' all thrown around and disassembled, you wouldnt think he was nearly as smart and qualified and fast as he is but......he's one of the best in La. !!! So yes, Id say Im more than just "lucky" to have someone close to me (like 5 miles from my house) that will and has the knowledge to fix just about anything electronic that you bring to him. A matter of fact, he has always stopped anything he would be doing and fix my "stuff" right then and there while I wait and watch him.....awesome huh!?!????!!:D

Swamptech People! New on Discovery Channel!

Cue "Deliverance" theme!
:spank::eek:;)

I find hard to believe you found a tech to do it that cheap. Usually the fee just for putting it on the bench and looking at it would be more than that, never mind the charge for parts and labor to repair it. You got a good guy there and no doubt you'll go back when needed.

You are definately right my brother and I will always use him and highly recommend him !!:thumbs up:

hey TASCAM MAN ...... I'm from Baton Rouge .... live in Florida since katrina but I'm a bayou guy.
First wife still lives in Gonzales .... also I played for years with van Broussard and Kane Glaze and Coozan and Floyd Brown and a buncha others you'd be familiar with.
LSU's looking pretty crappy huh?

oh ..... I went to school with Don Haney .... :( ...... sorry to hear that .... I was wondering just the other day what might have happened to him.
And yes ..... I know Bobby Henderson very well ...... we've played many a gig together and he was in Floyd's band while I was. In fact his sister Tareva is living over here in Florida too ..... around Tampa.
If you talk to Kane tell him it's Steve the sax player ..... he'll know who i am ....... in fact, that white CD of ours, I'm the sax guy and did all the horn parts and slide git work........ my real name isn't bob.

And yes ..... I know most of those guys ..... we'll PM each other for sure.
