I recently was listening to some music on my home stereo thru my Tascam CDRW-700 and all of a sudden it stopped playing......I went in the living room and it was SMOKING!!!
So I unplugged it and brought it to the kitchen opened it up and managed to get the CD out of it. Left it open and plugged it in and turned it on again and saw right where the smoke was coming from.....didnt exactly see what was burnt. So laid it up in the back room for a couple of weeks and just decided to take it to a TV repairman that has helped fix cassette based recorders for me and......he opens it up and put his BIG magnifying light in front of the PC board and said "I see it, you look if you see it" so....I saw after a while,a lil capaciter(M&M looking) burt up in the power supply!! He smushed/crushed it with his finger and went looking around for a replacement "M&M"
and saudered it in and checked it out and.......WAHLA in maybe a mere 20 minutes and a $10 charge ( I tipped him another $10) so a grand total of $20 and just like new !!!
