Hi
I have a Tascam CD-RW700 which developed a fault years ago which was why I stopped using it.

I would like to start using it again, but whenever I place a Disc into the try, it says toc reading, open, close or sticks on welcome and a clicking or clunking sound can be heard.

After switching it on and off repeatedly (sometimes from the mains as well), it settles and eventually successfully completes the toc reading process and plays the disc and all other functions start working as if nothing is wrong.

I have opened it up and can see that the lazer seems to be slipping in the carriage over and over again until it settles and then quickly scans the disc and then it's good to go.

I am new to this Forum so any replies well be appriciated.

Had a similar problem on mine, solved it with the recommendation from

“ Hi , The electrolytic capacitor from 10.000 uF / 25V is faulty .
Actualy it is the solderings from this capa that have cracked but it has probably spoiled this capa . so please replace it !
Enjoy ! , BR , Wim ”

But in my case the capacitor was 16v, not 25v. I think they probably fail because of the heat from the nearby heatsink, so I've relocated my replacement away from the heatsink.
