Greets All. I am looking to purchase my first home recording studio. Looking to use a multitrack digital recorder such as the Tascam DP-03. Although I have a very nice computer set-up I would prefer to use the hardware recorder. This would be my first purchase and attempt at recording. Basically all I really need is an 8 track recorder. ANY suggestions as to what is the best. easy to use without problems... Any feed back would be appreciated . Greg-

Have a look here, there are loads of descriptions of digital recorders. The 8 track versions are usually followed by '8'.
It's also worth looking on ebay, not necesarilly to buy right now, but because you'll get some idea of other recorders which you can then look into.
I'm a digital standalone multitrack user and I prefer them. But that's just me. My ilk is way, way in the minority.

I've been using the Boss Br600 for about 2 years now, pretty easy to get started (of course, you quickly get the "I need..." syndrome).

I use both a tascam dp01 and my computer to mix record to the tascam and edit and effects on the computer. mainly this is because i have a terrible computer.

I think RAMI has a pretty good setup - digital recorder and he uses Reaper on computer. I'm not sure if he uses both still. I would say record your 8 tracks on the portable. If you need additional tracks or effects, dump the tracks into your computer and use plugins on the computer. Portable is nice to take to your friend's house.
