First i think is because i try a AMPEX 456 from a friend when i buy this machine.i fouud the problem of the sticky tape and
stop immediately, and rewind tape,it's very slow.after that i check pinch roll,it's seem ok,i clean it with water.then i buy MRL and run with no problem.and then some NOS AMPEX 407(now i don't think is NOS),and i find the problem!then i buy CAIKLEEN,i plan to clean the pinch roll, but now i see:the pinch roll sticky itself!
sorry my english,i want know is :first the sticky tape ,and then it's make the pinch roll sticky OR pinch roll sticky itself ?
i must buy a new one or somewhere can fix it.
i miss my DIGI001:)

google terry's rubber rollers for a price and then send it to him. he does good work.

a little different world than the digi, can be a pain in the ass sometimes

Terry's Rubber Pinch Rollers & Wheels

He rebuilt my MSR-16 counter roller. Very good prices.

Also, Ampex 407 (unless manufactured in 1995 or later) is no good. If it is in a grey box it is bad. Does not matter how stored, it is a factor of time and chemical breakdown.

my 407 is 1998,now i'm not sure which sticky frist, roll or tape.if is roll, 407 maybe ok
terry reply my email, his prices is good.but i just found a factory in my city which made roll for print machine they can re-rubber the roll.
price is ok,but important i think the time for me is good, they can do it in few days,i ship to terry maybe 3or 4 days!
but i'm not sure the pinch roll for tape recorder is made by a special rubber than the others rolls.i will take my roll to that factory ask their engineer today,if they can't do it, i'll sent to terry immediately.

I sent the roller for my TSR-8 to Terry-came back like new....I read in something he posted that the sticky thing is caused by a factory error - there was a step omitted in the curing process.. this is why some rollers last forever and some go all icky..nothing we did... I know what you mean about the
001...I am using an 002 with 7.4.2 to archive interviews.. after replacing two power harnesses it is rock steady... good luck with the roller--Rick
