Is it possible to send 8 tracks from my tascam 488 to the digital 788? If so what would be the best way to do it?
Thanks,
Russ

How many OUTPUTS are on the 488?

How many iNPUTS are on the 788?

there's 2 outs(L+R) on the 488 and 6 in's on the 788(1-4 and aux7+8).

Hello,...

Tape outs. Does the 488 have 8 individual TAPE OUT jacks?
If so, then you're ok on the 488 [output] side.

Go search the TASCAMBBS, the 788 page, and I believe there is info on how to configure the 788 for 8 simultaneous inputs during record, by using the aux return busses, etc, [unless I'm mistaken].

Being not too familiar with the 488 or the 788, I could be mistaken, but I think this is feasible. Is your 488 a mkI (orig) or a mkII? That may make a difference.

My 488 is the original one and the 788 I believe has just 2 outs also monitor outs.

Bummer.

A 238 would play the 8 track master made in the 488, and 238 has 8 discrete outputs. Maybe you need to score a 238.

The 788 has 7 input faders, and 8 inputs, counting aux, so I think it could be configured to record 8 inputs simultaneously to 8 tracks. I'll check.

I can 't tell for sure, from the literature I'm lookin at now, but I'll look into the manual later. I think there's a tricky way to configure this unit to record 8 inputs simultaneously. I'll have to look closer.

The 788 has 6- 1/4" inputs, and a stereo aux in, so check the TASCAMBBS for discussion on how to perhaps configure it for simultaneous 8 track recording of 8 inputs.

I could still be wrong. I'll look into it more later.
