Tascam 688 - no sound from tape

I opened up the mixer section earlier today to fix a problem in one of the faders, and while I was doing so I could've been a bit more careful with the machine and I think I've messed something up. Tape transport seems to be working fine, but no sound comes though when playing back a tape, and nothing shows up on the level LED bars. But the mixer section appears to be working. Like, when I plug in an instrument and play something, I can hear it and it shows up in the LED bars.

Not familiar with those machines , but i think you need to retrace your steps.

Sounds like something got disconnected while you opened it up.

I opened it up and had a look inside, but I don't really know much about electronics. Are these capacitors leaking or is it just some kind of glue?
 
Those look ok to me. But opening it up wouldnt all of a sudden make capacitors start failing.

If the symptom wasn't there before it was opened to clean the faders, but now is, it would stand to reason you did something.. Start looking for whatever connectors were pulled to gain access.

Maybe something isn't fully seated.

I sure hope someone familiar with this machine chimes in.
