Anyone have a tascam 688 manual in PDF format they'd be willing to share?
I just bought one on ebay and it didn't come with the manual.
Thanks a bunch!!
BTW, here's my email: dgeedubs at gmail dot com

tried Tascam's site?

Have you tried Tascam's website? They have .pdf manuals for most LATER models. I've downloaded manuals for my 112mkII, CDRW-402 and CD-305 but was not able to get one for my 134B (anybody got one?). Not familiar w/ your 688 so can't say if it's there or not but give it a try. Best... Art (Sony-boy)

If you can't find it come back to this board - I have a paper copy somewhere.

What a machine the 688 was! I get quite nostalgic about it, until I remember what 8-tracks-on-cassette sounded like! (Sorry - I hope you enjoy your machine!)

Cheers

Hey Orc,
I couldn't find one, except for a version in GERMAN!
that 688 looks so amazing, but i can't for the life of me figure out how to use it. I bought it to record band rehearsal, so the digital thing doesn't bother me too much!
Any luck finding the paper copy?

Dave

Just picked this up. Haven't found the manual yet. Will have a look in my attic!

The mixer on the 688 is very flexible (= steep learning curve but great when you get the hang of it!)

Hey Orc,
don't worry bout looking in the old attic. i purchased a manual online. it finally came!

Now the only issue is trying to mix out to the computer...i cant seem to get any sound to come out of the thing even though there are tracks recorded and meters going. is there some kind of trick with this thing? i was trying to mix using scene 12, but have had no luck...

Scene 12 is the way to go for mixdown. The output will be through the stereo group 1/2 out on the back (twin RCA plugs?). I run that through a graphic EQ and then straight into a stand alone CD recorder. I don't know about feeding that signal to a PC though...you must need some sort of interface?

Oops...I just saw your other post. I guess you have the right jacks and cables.

Hmmm...that thing has so many damn buttons...if you have anything other than the group 1/2 monitor button depressed in the monitor section, turn them off. Also be sure that neither monitor nor mix is selected in the monitor mode section at the bottom.

You should hear everything through the headphone jack in the front...I don't know about your monitor set up.

Did you have plenty of output during tracking using the monitor section?
