tascam 520 power cable

would anyone happen to know what type of connectors (brand name?, common name?, etc.) are used for the tascam 520 power cable? a friend of mine recently received his 520 sans power cable and tascam is out of stock so I was thinking of building one for him.

Hello!

It's a less common connector type. I can't remember the name or model# outright, nor can I remember offhand how many pins,... (20 - I think),... BUT I did a lot of research on the connector type, & I came up with some proprietary info,... which I don't have right here, but I'll go thru my masses of personal papers & try to find it.

It's the type of connector that had a "push-clip-bail" that locked the connectors together with a "slide-lock" type "bail". Sorry if that description doesn't make sense. I don't know how many active strands of wire were used, but that info is in the M520 manual,... which of course we all have,... right?

I'll try to find this connector info, in total, & post better info..... later.

PS: D'ya wonder why I was researching the M520 power cable/connector?

yeah its a 20 pin. I removed the connector from the power supply and there was enough slack to plug it into the board, so i was thinking of maybe just splicing in a few feet of extra wire and hard wire the p/s so to speak. do you know how long the original cable was? Would this not work for a reason that i'm not anticipating? i take it that you were/are looking for a cable as well? where did you find yours (if you found it)? many thanks.

Yes, there have been successful cases documented of people doing a point-to-point wiring of this M520 board & supply. Over at www.tascamforums.com I read that a dude made a cable with "raw" pins that were not mounted in the connector, but he just "plugged" each individual pin into it's respective socket! That's not something I'd recommend except under the most dire circumstances, as I'd really prefer to have the proper connector on the cable. Anyway, that's what some dude did, and it worked!!

In 2004 (I think) I got an M520 that had a few problems with components missing, which unfortunately included a missing power cable. I've searched the web far & near, and I did come up with some info that I never followed up on. My first assumption was that the vendor that made or sold the connectors would want to sell a wholesale bulk of product, not just one single connector,... although that's simply an assumption on my part. I'll do some searching to find the info you're looking for,... & we'll both get clarified on the issue then. I'll have to look thru my personal papers & files of miscellaneous stuff to find this info. Will do,... asap.

I think the original M520 power cable was appx. 6 feet long.

i looked at a few electronics catalogs today and didnt see anything close to that style of connector. i also removed the connector from the p/s and looked all over for a logo, no luck. luckily the p/s has a male connector and the mixer has a female connector (or vice versa i dont have it in front of me) so you can sit the p/s right behind the mixer and power it up (once the connector is removed from the p/s housing). my buddy said tascam was going to do another run of cables in november but obviously doesnt want to wait that long so I think im just going to solder in some longer wires so the p/s doesnt have to sit immediately behind the mixer.
