Hello,

I have a Tascam 48 that I inherited from a friend. In the past, sometimes it has worked. The problem now is that the tape runs slow. Do the rollers on the tension arms actually roll? Or are they fixed? I notice that when I take the end cap that holds the "roller" on, the tape runs at the proper speed. Do they need to be lubricated?

I have cleaned them thoroughly with tape head cleaner, and cleaned the heads, earlier gunk was the problem, but not now. Please help!

Pete

I have an MS-16 with a similar but not identical transport and my tensioner arms do roll and have never caused a problem for me so, perhaps yours are in need of either a mild lube with the appropriate machine oil or an actual adjustment to free them up?

If you have the manual, it should document where to lube and what type of lube is specified for your machine as well as how to adjust them, mechanically for proper tension.

If you don't have the manual, let us know and I'll look it up in my manual for my machine to see what is recommended for mine.

Cheers! :)

Hey,

No I don't have a manual. If you could help me with the lube points that would be great! Should I just use regular machine oil? Or some graphite lube?

Thanks

Pete

The only oil mentioned in the manual is a TEAC TZ-255 spindle oil or "equivilent"...what ever that means?

Sorry.

As for specific lube points, they don't mention any in the manual so, I assume that to mean that the part is considered permanently lubed.

Please see my post over at the other site for more info.

Cheers! :)
