Well, I got my Tascam 48 back, hooked (plugged) all the cables back up and yikes! no sound!
The mixer and amp is on, put a "known" tape that has audio on it, hit play and dead silence! No VU meters boucing, anything!

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Randal

If it's like the 38 and TSR-8 it probably has a dedicated internal fuse for the audio system. One of my TSR-8s went out like that, so if you have a multimeter it would be a good idea to locate the fuse board (above one of the reel motors in the '32 and TSR) and check them all.

Randal,

Is that the same 48 which had a bad drive transistor for the capstan motor and then was serviced? When you picked it up, did the tech show it working?

Did you press "repro" when playing back the tape?

Did you press "repro" when playing back the tape?

That's the first thing that came to my mind too!

That, or the tape was inverted, playing the backing side of the tape or...

the tape was not played long enough to get to the section where the actual tracks were recorded.

Or the tape wasn't threaded properly.

Or the service shop forget to plug in the head umbilical cord wires when the deck was reassembled

Or the heads are clogged with dirt and can't pass a signal.

Cheers! :)

All the fuses checked out, still no playback or VU's bouncing.
I checked all of the snakes, everything hooked up okay. Tried different reels of tape that had stuff recorded on it, nothing!

Question: IF I didn't have the snakes, mixer, amp hooked up, would the VU meters still show activity when in the "play" mode?

Just wondering, BEFORE I re-check all of the snakes, connections, etc.

Thanks for all of your help!

Randal
