ok so i swapped one of the good cards to each channel that was not putting out any audio during playback and.....they all work! so grateful for the advice from everyone here. now i know where the problem is. what i did was put one of the bad cards back in just to see how it would do after i ran the test, back to nothing. but i did notice this: i cranked everything on my mixer, the channel fader, the master fader and the monitors, i could barely hear what was on the track....i mean barely audible. wondering if anyone out there might have an opinion as to what this means. didn't get a chance to check every track giving me trouble, just one, and that was the result. we're moving along now! thanks again for the help!

So that tells me you have bad channel cards. We need schematics for the channel cards. Most likely you have blown opamps on the cards. Are there relays?

Regards, Ethan

Yes, there are relays. That's what I was thinking too after reading his post. I'll get a hi-res scan of the amp card schematic linked here later today. I think the suspect relay is K101 but that is from memory. I think that is the one that switches the output source.

amazing! thank you both very much! this is turning into quite the project and even though it's going to need some work im having a blast with it. ive pretty much already decided that i will be fixing it myslef. im waiting on a price quote from teac on the manuals for it, so those hopefully will be on the way soon. yes! schematics it is! i would greatly appreciate the scan, sweetbeats! as for the relays, that seems to be the concensus, any idea where replacements can be found? i'll be checking it out all day to see if i can come up with them! thanks so much!

Here is a pdf with hi-res scans of the PCB layout, parts list and the schematic for the Tascam 48 Record/Reproduce Amplifier PCB:

Here is a picture of the amp card too that other helpers might use for pointing out parts since relating the PCB layout to the actual assembly can visually be a challenge sometimes.

Gotta go for now. Digikey and Mouser are good bets to find the relays...Allied Electronics is another oft mentioned source but I bet you can find what you need at either of the first two places.
