Right now I'm looking at a PA set up for just practice. I was thinking of getting a used Mackie 1202vlz, a power amp (Tech Pro 2000) and some speakers (?). I thought I saw in a thread that I could use my Tascam 424mkII as the mixer instead of buying one at this time. Is that a viable alternative for just practice or no?

If you don't need phantom power and four channels work for you, sure. Back in the day, I had a six-channel Peavey coming into the Tascam's line in along with the four channels on the Tascam, which formed a ten-channel PA mixer that also made its own board tape. A bit difficult to manage, but it worked.
