Tascam 424

Anybody out ther taken an old Tascam 424 analog Portastudio apart to replace a capstan belt? I have had this deck for years and use it daily with my vocal students for real time feedback, but these days it speeds up and slows down etc. any thoughts beside get a new deck.

I have read elsewhere that "a monkey with a screwdriver" can change the drive belts on a Tascam 424. You can get them on ebay for about $20.

But the problem may be with your motor. If so you will need a Mabuchi. See http://www.negatron.org/?p=15&cpage=1#comment-59
