424 play back
im working with the exact same recorder you are, and i am assuming you want to ajust levels with the faders and not just the tape cue knobs. so here goes, and this is straight from the manual.
1.raise the master fader to the shaded area between 7 and 8
2. press the left and right monitor selector switches. the cue monitor must be UP.
3.set all input switches on the four input channels to thier center tape position.
4. press play, and while listening to the tape play, use the channel faders to set each tracks relative level for the desired balance. the channel 1 fader is being fed with track one, and so on for the four tracks.
5. from here you can adust each tracks left and right position with the pan controls, for the desired stero image. you can also e.q. eack track in this mode for desired tone.
this is in the mixdown section of the manual.
but heed texroadkill's advice, and get a good recording level to begin with or all this other stuff wont matter( im learning that the hard way)
hope this helps.
later.
