Hi,
I'm interested in buying a Tascam 424 mkII or mkIII from eBay. What would be the best buy for getting my own ideas on tape and possibly a band demo (2 guitars, vocals, bass and drums)? What are the advantages/disadvantages? And what will the quality be like when I have bounced tracks? Also can I hear previously recorded tracks whilst recording anohter on top?

I think a quick search of this forum will yield tons of already expressed opinions of these two. But basically, they are both solid 4 tracks. I have the ii, and love it. the iii has a few extra full function channels, that increase your ability to use it as a mixer, or to mix multiple signals as you record. Yes, you can listen to previous tracks as you add on. that's sorta the whole point of a multitrack machine. bottom line - you will enjoy either a lot. Just depends what you want to do with it. the ii is a little more versitile.
