Hi,
I just got a 424 from e-bay. It is the older style and I need a manual for it. Does anyone know of a source for one, or could someone fax me a copy of one? My fax # is 1-916-732-5527.
Regards,
Jerry

Go to http://www.tascam.com then to "products" then to "portostudios" then to "424 MK III." Download the manual from there. I think you'll find it's useful even though it's for the newer MK III. I use it with my MK II. Be prepared - it's over 50 pages long.

Thanks for the info. I have already done that and I guess it will have to do for now. I got this 424 for my son who plays his music constantly. I paid $150 for it on e-bay and everything seems to function. It looks like it has never been used. Are there any parts that routinely wear out that I should be aware of?
Thanks again,
Jerry

Have you got the 424 without XLR mic inputs?
I've got the manual and will be happy to snail mail you a copy. E-mail me with your address.

I have the manual for the original, too. If you need it, let me know.

I sold my 424 a few years ago, but couldn't find the manual at the time I sold it, so I now still have it (I KNOW where it is now, BTW).

Make damn sure that you never ever drop the 424. That's what I did to mine. It will damage this little copper coil in the machine called the solenoid or something. It will make the unit inoperable. It's pretty delicate.

So, I had mine fixed and it cost about $80 to replace the solenoid coil. As soon as I brought it home, something else went wrong on it. The input jack for the power cord became funky and made the power constantly fail. I thought, screw it, so I just sold it to some chump for $75! So be careful of the power cord jack as well.

By the way, that's a great price at which you bought that. I bought a 424 when they had just come out in 1995, and the bastards were $600!
