tascam 424 help???

Has anyone got a schematic or service manual for a tascam 424, the original one. I picked one up, but the tape section is goofing about, it only plays and records for about 2 seconds before turning itself off. I am an electronics engineer so I should be able to figure it out and could probably trace out the circuit, but being lazy I thought i'd see if anyone could help with a schematic or a service manual.

Most of these types of problems in Portastudios are related to the main capstan drive belt.

It can be purchased from Tascam, or an equivalent belt may be found at some electronic component stores.

Access to the belt can be gotten by removing the bottom cover of the 424.

Tascam parts will sell you a belt @ (323) 727-4840. They can assist you with part #'s.

Remember, if you find a generic VCR belt at a component store, the belt you're replacing is probably a little stretched out, so get a belt that is a couple of cm. shorter.
