Hello,

I have a setup where I record to either a Tascam 4 Track Portastudio 644 or my DAW through a Focusrite Saffire Pro 24. I tried to bend it everyway possible. The quality of the Saffire doesnt match by far the 4 track in terms of quality, liveliness and brilliance. It just sounds flat.

What step/gear in terms of DAW recording would bring me to level and behond of my Tascam 4 track so that I could enjoy the advantages of the digital domain?

Thanks and Ciao
:confused::confused::confused:

Have you tried tracking on the porta then sending the tracks to the DAW through the channel outputs?

Thank you for your reply! What I tried so far is to track to tape of the tascam and later record to the DAW. Though, the loss of quality is still obvious. I just wonder what audio-interface out there would really preserve the quality of sounds that I record. So much advertisement and promises out there from manufacturers, its hard to see through.

I'm not sure what you mean by loss of quality. The Focusrite simply converts the analog signal to digital samples. Are you hearing hiss, distortion, buzzing, or what?

I would decribe the sound as lifeless, dull, airless...boring...Good for project work but noway suitable for real pro strive...

I guess it has to be related to the quality of the converters. I assume I have to step up to something like Benchmark ADC systems or similar...
