Hey guys,
I was just curious if anyone has had the the tape lifters on a Tascam 38 replaced or turned upside down. . . I recently found a used, but Mint condition Tape Lifter assembly, and would like to have a Tascam tech to have it replace it. . .So, I was wondering if anyone had any idea of how long it might take for a tech to replace a Lifter on this thing. . . ?

Also, on a side note: I have an additional (used) Tape Lifter for the Tascam 38, . . it's used but in pretty good condition,. .Unfortunately, these Lifters are no longer available from Teac anymore, which really sux! So, I thought someone out here might need one, . . PM me, and make me an offer!

It's not a difficult task to replace the lifter assembly. I've removed mine from a TSR-8 and turned the lifters. By the way, I don't recommend trying to turn these without some Valium on hand. :D They are stamped at the base and will twist out when you try to turn them around. You have to restamp them with a metal punch, while at the same time not bending them with the force of the hammer... not fun. :(

Removing and replacing the assembly though is relatively easy if you have a spare.

Thanks Beck! I had no idea that the Lifters needed to be re-stamped to be installed, . .No wonder! I think it was Dave, that mentioned on another thread that . . ." Changing those Lifter are not for the weak hearted. .."

Well, I Have a used replacement part, and its in great shape. . .So, I'm gonna have tech replace it for me .. .Its good to know that its not a too time consuming procedure, . .as long as you have the know-how, and the tools. . .! Thanks again for the heads up Beck :o
