My Tascam is too weak to roll a reel. Even an empty one. It has no problem withour the reel. Need lubrication??

...

Things I'd check are:

Inspect and determine if the capstan is spinning when tape is loaded, and that the belt is not slipping or too loose.

Check that the reel tables are not pushed in enough to cause the reels to rub on the face of the deck.

Inspect the brake solenoid that it has full and free motion, and that the hub brakes are releasing completely.

Inspect the head-load solenoid that it also has full & free motion, and that the pinchwheel is moving completely up to engage the capstan.

Inspect and determine that the hubs are tightly set to the reel motors.

Several of these things will require removing the covers to inspect the guts of the machine.;)

Thanks for your answer!
The reels really rub the deck and a few screws attached to the deck. Had to remove them...!
I'll open it and check it out.
Or take it to professionals to check it out..

Another problem. The front panel won't come off. I've loosen every screw, tape guides, pinch roller and knobs.
I'm afraid to broke it if I pull too hard.

...

The head cover has to come off first.
It helps if you remove the back cover and top bonnet.
There is a nut on the pitch control knob that needs to be removed with needlenose pliers.
The top of the front panel hooks a bit under the top bonnet.
There are also screws for the front panel on the bottom/front.
;)

Thanks!
It's great to have advice from a guy who plays Black Flag and the Ramones!!

edit:
Are the play/rec/rew etc. buttons attached to the front panel? Do they come off with the panel or should they stay where they are?
