Does anyone know the difference between a tascam 38 and tascam 48 (other than the price)? I'm looking around at 8-track reel to reels, and I'm trying to gather as much info as I can. Right now, I'm considering the two tascams as well as an Otari 5050. The 38s are going for so cheap right now, I'm wondering if the difference in quality merits the difference in price.

Thanks.

The big difference is in construction.

The 40 and 50 series are built like tanks. And weigh just about as much.

The 38 has RCA connectors with -10dbV operation only,...

and the 48 has an OB option, with gives you additional XLR-balanced INs & OUTs, with switchable -10/+4 operation.

The 38 was marketed strictly at the personal/home market, and the 48 was marketed at the 'studio' level. The 48's circuitry is perhaps a bit upgraded, as compared to the 38, and the 48's definitly built like a tank, as compared to the 38.

42B-nB?

Howdy all, say anyone know where the 42B fits into the model line. Whats the difference between a 32 and 42 and what the B and NB stand for, if anything? Thanks much!:)
