tascam 32 with dbx or revox?

I have a tascam 388 and Id like to do some mixdowns to 2 track... Ive been offered a tascam 32 with the dbx module and maybe a revox , the tascam was well protected and it will come from a tech..

I think I prefer the tascam cause it comes with the dbx and it seems very well conserved, what do u think of that machine?

and one more thing , what kind of rmgi tape is good to master? same as to track with the 388 ? now Ive got lpr 35 for the 388

If I remember from other threads the Revox parts are getting hard to find. The Tascam 32 still has plenty of parts available through Teac Plus the DBX unit will work well with the deck. I hope others chime in to confirm the parts availability for the Revox.

I second what dodge said...I think you'll find better parts availability and user support with the 32. That would be my choice given your options though I'm curious what model is the Revox?

LPR35 is a 1mil thickness tape. The 32 was designed for 1.5mil +6 tape which, in the RMGI line, would be SM911...456 equivalent.

I'd third that too. Tascam support is second to none and prices aren't really that painful, and you see a lot of parts in the 'grey market' (I admit to occasionally buying parts from ebay.... ), and the 3x series are relatively modern machines. Revox parts might be more expensive to source as well. That said, both companies have excellent reputations.

Revox parts are generally more expensive, indeed but they do make excellent machines. It's basically a domestic version of their Studers.

Depends on the model. The A77 and B77 were consumer machines, albeit high-end ones. The PR99 is the professional version, but it's still basically a consumer machine and I believe it was mostly used for monitoring and editing or recording in smaller shops.

As far as I know, the only machine which really crosses over from consumer to heavyweight professional is the Revox C270, which is a sort of bastard child of a Studer A807 and an A810. It seems to have the transport of the 807, but the electronics appear to be on many small cards like the 810, not a handful of large cards as with the 807.

That said, I've seen a number of B67s in a consumer format, but I don't know whether it was ever marketed that way or whether people just bought them and adapted them for that purpose.
