Tascam 2488 neo question

Hi,
I have been pondering what my next recorder upgrade will be (digital multi-tracker vs. computer etc.) and am leaning toward the Tascam 2488 neo with maybe a computer later. (Currently have Tascam DP01 FX). I guess I'm just one of those who prefer the hands on vs. working with a mouse etc.
Anyway, to get to my question, I want to have the ability to add (not while recording, but after) separate effects to each channel during mixdown. Would be nice to do this with external effects processor if it's possible.
As an example, could I add let's say, Chorus to track 1, Flanger to track 2, some reverb on track 3, a little delay on track 4, Chorus + flanger on track 5 ... and so on? Like a real recording studio could.
Or do I have to go the PC route (which I really don't want to do) to accomplish this?

Thanks for any input

I'd vote... pc.

I had the 2488 and it was better in relevance to other units, but from a plug-in and editing on a full monitor screen, in living colors, and a long list of other things pc's are great.

My brother has the old 2488 and its "portable"...but very limited in comparison. so if your not lugging your studio around, think about the pc route.

I'm a newbie-old timer hobbyist, after the past year or two and finding more and more things available to the pc setup, like upgrades to the DAW, easily trying different DAWS, and plug-ins...there's an ocean of great FREE plug-ins and then the Editing and sweeten the pot with Wave's Mastering stuff and converter to MP3 all without leaving the chair, its pretty cool.

you said you'd be getting a pc later anyway....why wait? why do you not want a pc?

your focus on effects, chorus flangers, etc...
with a pc this is nearly free legally, and there's no cables and no extra "table space" is needed. whatever your need your pc will continue to be easier to upgrade too. its super user friendly once you learn a few tricks (which seem to be common to all software choices/products)

thats my input from a 2488 to pc.
Why? I just started messing with pc's for fun, while owning the 2488, and the interest and learning anbd capabilities grew and grew, and next thing I noticed was the 2488 wasn't being used and was sold.

i admit i like tinkering with tech stuff as much as playing at times, so YMMV.

then spend all the money, from the mountain of rack gear you didn't buy, and get some Barefoot Monitors and Room acoustic work..:D

Hi thanks for your reply. I guess a couple reasons I was leaning to 2488 .. first, to me it's more "hands on" and I like that, feels like you are really operating recording equipment etc.
Second, to be honest I'm overwhelmed with all the choices (a million different software programs, do I go with PC or Mac?) ... and a feeling that there are so many things that could go wrong.
I read Pro Tools and other forums where it's nothing but people having problems ... how do I do this, how do I fix that, I do this and it freezes ... just on and on and on.
I could see myself taking a baseball bat to the thing in no time at all LOL ...
Any suggestions on something reasonable ($) that's reliable (both for Mac or PC)? Software and computer?
I guess my biggest thing would be being able to record more than 2 tracks simultaneously, the effects as I mentioned, and getting quality CD demos out of it.
Thanks,
Scott

i thought the same thing to.
many have, i suppose.

2488 is probably up and running quicker....maybe. Its easy to run.

The pc is easy too and once its online its great too. I suspect some units now are easy as plugging in a USB cable and pulling up a MultiTrack screen and hitting Record...

the abundance of plug-ins that are legally free, allow a lot of effects to be used. Its the pc that has to be able to handle it.
having numerous effects in the 2488 is more difficult imo.
but thats coming from my 2yrs of pc work, I'm still learning cool new things.

I haven't noticed any quality differences in the two. 24-48, Wave'd and swapped to a MP3.

maybe someone will chime in on a "fast setup without problems" pc unit?

Ive been using an Akai DPS16 (Mainly because I go on location for live shows) and I was leaning towards upgrading to the Tascam 2488 neo...or the Korg d3200.

I have read many bad things about the earlier versions of this board...but the NEO has the bugs worked out...Has anyone had complaints about this unit?

Been using my Neo for about two months now and I really like it. No complaints. If you prefer more hands on, tactile recording gear then this is a good deal.

It has effects sends and returns...where I think you have to use it while bouncing tracks...I have alot of vintage analog effects and I love to use them when I need it.
