Hi,

I wanna bypass the 244's mixer section and preamps by connecting my 308B mixer to the 244. How do I do this properly for tracking/overdubbing etc .. ? What connections and where ? All I have is a 6 foot HOSA patch chord 8 RCA's on each side (16 total).

Thanks!

Daniel :)

Daniel,

You can't completely by-pass the mixer section on your 244 Portastudio.

However you can by-pass a good chunk of it on playback at least because the 244 has direct tape out jacks that can connect to the tape input jacks on the M308B which are all grouped together just underneath the buss out jacks on the M308B.

As for input of signals, the best you can do is set up the faders on the 244 to the hash mark area of the faders and put the trim controls to their minimum position and feed the buss outs of the M308B to the 4 input channel strips on the 244. Doing that, will allow you to use the superior pre-amps in the M308B and make use of the phantom power capabilities of it, if you have microphones that require it.

Make sure the Portastudio's inputs are switched to the line inputs and turn off all pads, keep the pans hard left and right and turn all the parametric eq pots to the 12:00 O'clock positions to remove their effect on the signals.

The better and more direct approach might be to consider finding a 234, 4 track deck from TASCAM which will offer slightly better specs and fidelity compared to the 244 Portastudio.

Cheers! :)

Yes, Jeff, I'm trying to find a nice, mint and not too expensive 234 on Ebay but no such luck as of yet. I'll keep looking!

Thanks for the great advice! Now, could I feed the buss outs of the M308B to the 4 input channel strips on the 244 via the "RCV" (receive) RCA jacks ? I assume that's what you meant ?

Thanks again! :)

Daniel
