Hi,

I'm a total noob and grabbed myself a second hand tascam 244. I would like to record stuff from ableton into tape and then back record it back into ableton.
Anybody know the correct cables and routing to achieve this?

Sorry for being so newbie!

Attached are photos of the ins and out(puts) of both hardware devices

Welcome to the forum.

How many tracks are you talking about? Are you wanting to dump 4 tracks from Ableton to the 4-track and then dump that back into the computer?

What are you trying to accomplish with this? If we know your motivation, we can help you get there.

I would think you're gonna want at least a 4-channel interface

Hi,

I just want to send a random loops/samles from ableton into the 4 track and record the loop/sample and record the tape loop/sample back into ableton.

Hey man!

Congrats on the 244. I love those machines. I've been doing this for a while. There's a couple ways you can do this.

Grab an stereo RCA>1/4" cord and go from the specific track (only connecting one of the RCA's) right into the Focusrite (switched to LINE) or hook both the left and right RCA's up to the LINE OUT and run that into the Focusrite the same way.

I digitized 10 years worth of cassette stuff to Logic Pro with this exact set-up. I've also done exactly what yr talking about doing and you can get awesome results, you just need to stay with it and try all sorts of levels and methods until you find the one that works. There is some really great sounds thee for you to discover just make sure you always use a nice quality Type II cassette.

Lastly, there is the Behringer UPHONO UFO202 that will take car of it without having to mess with anything else. I bought it years back for $25 and i still use it for this kind of stuff

If you're doing a stereo track, just run 1/4" cables from outputs 3 and 4 of your Scarlett to inputs 1 and 2 of the 244. Then use an RCA cord with RCA-to-1/4" adapters to get back to the CPU. Plug the RCA end into the LINE OUT L/R of the 244. (You could also use the TAPE OUT 1 and 2 jacks if you didn't want to EQ the tracks or anything on the 244.) Plug the 1/4" ends into inputs 3 and 4 on the Scarlett. That'll do it!

Wow. Awesome replies. I will try these methods
out as soon as the cables i ordered arrive!
