Tascam 1082 firewire problem

:( I bought a new firewire port about 2 months ago and connected it to Tascam 1082. Everything was working. Than after a while I sometimes needed to start the tascam 2 times to get the connection (and the firewire light on the tascam board would light up) Now it just doesn't. Could the firewire port go bad that fast. Any other ideas? Thanks for any help.
 
ps, its the IEEE 1394 PCI card. Tasczm tech suggested I get ADAPTED 4300 TS for music applications and for use with tascam. Stil not sure why the new IEEE pooped out?
