This thing can record the Left and Right channels independently correct?

I think thats what I have been looking for. A nice little unit with plenty of track width, tape speed, and not too many tracks. Just nice for simple acoustic guitar tracking for transfer into digital.

Is there any noticable tape hiss at 15ips?
 
Only if you're playing really quietly and have the volume cranked on playback, otherwise, it's spec'd at about 70 db s:n ratio and that's about the same as a cassette deck running Dolby C but without any Dolby at all! :cool:

Watch your levels and you'll have no issues with hiss.

Just remember you can record a single channel at once but when you record the second channel it will be out of sync. You could use it as a sound on sound recorder though.

All I want to do is either record a stereo mic'd track, or a rhythm with a lead.

Essenially, is it a good two track recorder? And what would be the benefit of the Tascam 32?

Large NAB reel capacity and an electronic, 4 digit counter with RTZ, (Return to zero) search function. Otherwise, it's the same machine.

Some of the benfits I can see to getting the 22-2 is it is light and easy to move around if you need to, they seem to be easy to find at a real good price
and if you get one shipped to you it is more likely to get there in one piece casue of the weight and size. They sound great, Also may have not spent its life in a studio and got used a whole lot. Also the price cant be beat for what they are going for now days compared to the 32-2.
