Hey guys, I've been workin with tape since July so I'm still in a stage of infancy and I still don't understand the spec sheets for tape. I just don't know how to read them and what all the info is telling me. I don't understand the Biasing charts or the Out vs In charts. I just wish I could look at this stuff and accurately be able to judge the tape and how it will work with my machine (Tascam MSR 24). I wouldn't make anyone explain to me what all this means seeing as that could require a quite lengthy explaination, but if anyone knows of a good book or a good web site that explains this to amatures I'd really appreciate it. I've wanted to learn more about tape and how it works and how to get the best possible performance out of it but I'm having trouble finding good resources.

Thanks,
-Barrett

Jay McKnight (MRL) has a lot of good info and technical papers on his site at:

I've found these papers very informative, though it may take a while and a good bit of re-reading for things to sink in if you are pretty new to the fundamentals of magnetic tape recording. Hang in there!

Cheers,

Otto

Thanks a lot, I'll definitely check that site out as soon as I have time to pay a good amount of attention to it!
