Greetings all. I am making my 1st post here. I'm a part time musician. I like to record myself, & one of my tools is an analog tape deck, Tascam 3030. It's the broadcast version of the Teac X2000 series machine. It hit the market around 1989.
I use +6 dB tapes with it & get good results. Tapes like Ampex/Quantegy 456 are getting hard to find. The 3M 226 is long gone, as is 250. What other tape types would be suitable? I use 7.5 ips tape speed for non-critical recording like practice, with +3 dB tapes, like 406, 206, etc. At 15 ips I use the +6 dB type.
I know that the new ATR brand is rated very high, but will it work on my 3030? I'm not sure if ATR master is a +6 or a +9 dB type. Does anyone know? It's pretty expensive, & I'd like to know before buying some only to get stuck with it. Any advice would be appreciated.
I use my deck to record live music, me on drums, vocals, & guitar. Thanks in advance.
