Is it alright to use 91% isopropyl alcohol to clean heads? its a first aid antiseptic. also, any good suggestions on tape manufacturers? Ive been using tdk type II 60 minute tapes and need to order more tapes. Every now and then I get one out of a box that yields a popping, record scratching kind of noise and am thinking about switching. I currently purchase these from Geetar Center by the box.

If anyone is interested, I will be posting my first mix soon online via my 424 and 488 respectively.

somewhat proud....not to loud.

thanks

91% alcohol should be fine for head cleaning.

The popping noise is back? Didn't you have a terrible problem with that before? What fixed it? Did you ever find out? Was it ever fixed?

If only a few tapes out of a batch have pops & such, I'd fall back on recommending bulk erasing new tape stock before it's used.

I'm interested in hearing your latest 424 and 488 recordings!

Did you hear mine?

Good luck,.........;)

424 noise

never did figure it out....i just keep the heads super clean and demagnitize frequently. Every now and than it comes back, but i clean it back up and it does the trick. so now im thinking it could be the tapes. it hasnt been the problem like before and easy to deal with.

you bet i listen to your stuff Dave. Especially the Beatles covers. Im a fan man. Your tunes are one of the reasons i never gave up. its just trying to find the time....

i will get my mix this weekend on the HR site. need my wifes help for the computer stuff....

thanks for the reply and all of the past help, one of these days i will get some drums down on the tapes that orange robot sent. (bowie/doors)

have a good Thanksgiving.

Yeah, the noise! Aaaggghhh!!! That pesky magnetism!

I think I can get pretty good sounds out of these machines & I think my recordings exemplify that, (especially my most recent ones), but for the most part I just do it for fun. I'm a fan of the Tascam 424 & 488, too!

Try bulk erasing the tapes, or score more tapes and see if that helps. I've used Maxell XL90's and XL60's, as well as a mix of Emtec CE/CSII's (no longer available), and even Memorex CD2 90's (still available at Circuit City), & I've not had any problems with any undue pops & clicks. You may be in a magnetic field area or area of high static, but I know we've discussed that before.

Good luck & I hope to hear some cool mixes from you some day.

Thanx!;)
