Hi there!
I've got two tape echoes. The Roland RE.201 and the Maestro Echoplex EP-3. The problem with both units are that The Erase head doesn't seem to erase all information on the tape. I guess this is a common problem since both tape echoes has the same problem. CAn this be cured with demagnetizing the heads? Changing tapes or cleaning the tape heads?

Thanks,
Roffe

Common problem with tape echoes. Sometimes the tracking is inaccurate, the tape loop moving slightly too far up or down on the head for the entire recording to be erased. I have found that cleaning the tape path thoroughly, using 91% alcohol on metal parts and fantastik on the rubber, helps. Also carefully aligning the guides is important, although my machine is a different one than either of yours. The Ecco-fonic has a recording volume pot on the side, as well as two bias adjustments, one for each head...not sure if yours do also, but setting the record level at a minimum for good reproduction may help too. Finally, the tape loop needs to move without binding through the path to assure proper tracking, which on my unit requires 1 mil tape. Hope this is useful to you.
