Hi,

I was wondering whether anyone has an opinion between these two active monitors?

I'm looking at buying a pair below £300 and I'm thinking of one of these. If anyone has another suggestion of a good flat response active monitor around this price range then please do add your suggestion. I don't see my self being able to go and listen to these monitors myself before buying so I'm hoping to take your word for it!

I'm using Digidesign's 003 system and I 'acoustically correct' my mixing room using the ARC Acoustic Correction plug-in.

Many thanks in advance.

Billy.

Yep, *everybody* has an opinion. Can everybody reach a consensus? Nope.

No two people have the same opinion on just what "flat" means, let alone sounds like, any more that they will have an agreement about what size and brand of show will fit their feet best.

Then my "word" would be to deal with a phone sales rep one-on-one who understands your situation and will be willing to either sell you one of each model initially, or sell you a pair of each with the understanding that you'll be returning one of them within a week, so you can sound test them in your room with *your* ears.

Don't listen to us, because we are not you.

And some folks drink a lot when they want a plain-looking person to look attractive. But in the morning, they'll still look the same ;).

Many thanks for your reply Glen,

You are quite right about making my own mind up of course and will see about getting both pairs to compare in my mixing environment.

I suppose I was largely just after some feedback good or bad about each speaker...

I have since searched more on this forum and it seems not many speak well of the Behringers - except for those that bought them of course :D

Off my own topic but: Do I take it you are not a fan of the ARC Room Correction or is your wife ugly? ;)

If those are your only two choices (there are many brands/models out there)...I would say the Tannoy's are better choice...on both the build and sound quality...IMHO.

Well, besides the idea that everybody's ears are different like we already discussed, this is another problem I have with these kind of questions; people will tend to answer based upon what they have experienced. This being in large part an entry-level BBS, there are not many folks on here that have had experience with Tannoy*, even though it is a favorite (not the only one) in nearfields amongst the folks with greater Big Box Studio experience.

Personally, just for the record, I really like Tannoy (especially the Tannoy Elipses, but who can afford those? ;) ), but I am very reticent to even say that here because a) I have no experience with the Behris you mention, and 2) what my ears like are not necessarily what yours like, so unless you know me and my ears, my advice would at best have a 50-50 chance of being helpful (and a 50-50 chance of being detrimental) to your decision.

I don't know who you plan to get your speakers from, but if you work woth a good company with a good sales staff, like a Sweetwater or a B&H or someone like that, you should be able to explain and work out something with the sales rep that will let you compare them as long as you promise to buy from them. They'd rather have the sale than not have it, and often they'll have a demo model or or a repack or something they can ship for comparison without having to worry qout you breaking open the box on a brand new inventory unit.

LOL, I had better be careful about how I answer that  ;).

Nah, in seriouness: I personally have a hard time buying into the idea of being able to "correct" or even partially adjust for a room from within the monitoring chain. If it works for you, I won't try to tell you it doesn't work for you, but I'd bet that it's actually correcting for improper monitor choice more than it's actually helping out your room's personality. Either way, I'd compare monitors without the ARC engaged before I did anything else.

*Based upon a long-running poll conducted here not too long ago, as well as my personal observations here over the last couple of years.

not a fan of the ARC type stuff... correct for one spot??? fuk up everywhere else... i do have the reveals here and love them... have had them they first came out... i have no experience with the behringers (thankfully) but can tell you when i bought these i was selling audio and doing elctronic repairs at a store which carried the mackies and some low level jbl's and a few more... but in demoing them all over time i decided that for the dough the reveals were it...

I have the Behringer Truth 2030A monitors and love them.
They do nothing to enhance the music, are basically flat, give me excellent separation, each speaker comes with its own amplifier, have power to spare, weigh a ton and have several knobs to twiddle if you feel the need. I don't.
They allow me to listen to the mix and make adjustments.
Some of Behringer's gear gets a pretty rough ride here.
I own a fair amount of their gear and am mostly happy with it.
The Xenyx 1204 FX e.g. makes a lousy studio mixer but an excellent "Live" board. A question of using the right tool for the job is what it really boils down to.
In this case, The Behringer Truths are the right tool for the job for me.
I'd say the 2031A would be a safe buy.
I can't speak for Tannoy but someone else already has.
